Destiney Norman currently has sophomore standing at St. Norbert College as she works towards an English major and an art minor. As well as filling the role of a student, Destiney is also a mother of two: Nathan who’s four and Andrew who’s two. It also doesn’t take Destiney’s amazing purple hair and thirteen tattoos to tell that she’s creative and clever. She enjoys baking, drawing, as well as reading stories to her kids. This flash fairy tale, a brief and condensed story, even uses her sons’ middle names for its characters in dedication to them. Destiney wanted to write a story she could tell her sons, which inspired this one. Following three mischievous boys who run into a troublesome troll, Destiney’s tale provides the backstory to how Agares became a demon protector of one of the gates to hell.

Agares, Michael, and zachariah
By Destiney Norman
Once upon a time, there was a small quiet house in a small quiet village. That small quiet village was right on the edge of a very large forest. In this small quiet house within the small quiet village on the edge of a very large forest lived three little boys. Their names were Agares, Michael, and Zachariah, and they were quite the trio of spirited young boys. One day the boys ventured into the forest and found a little troll sitting beside a little dying campfire.
Agares, being the eldest and most mischievous, had a plan. “Let us take the troll as our prisoner. He can do all of our chores and lessons, and we can play!” At first, Michael and Zachariah thought this was not a very good idea (as little brothers often do), but they decided to go along with Agares’ plan anyway (as little brothers always do). The little troll worked very hard, but was miserable and missed his family terribly.
After the little troll’s family realized that their little troll had been gone for far too long, they decided to search the nearby small and quiet village. The trolls found the little boys right away, hearing the smaller two begging the biggest to let something go. These trolls were ugly, but not dense: They followed these little boys to their home, and sure enough, they saw their little troll. Getting angry, and filling with vengeance, the trolls seized the home, rescuing their little troll and taking the three boys as captives.
On the way back to the forest, the little troll told his troll family that the two younger brothers, Michael and Zachariah, had been nothing but kind. The trolls remembered hearing the boys earlier and decided to release the two younger boys, but kept Agares. Michael and Zachariah ran back to their small quiet house and vowed to each other to never give in to something they knew was wrong.
The trolls, however, still had Agares. After many days and nights of watching him fail at doing all of their chores, they decided to set him on fire and watched him run off deeper into the forest. Off to the East.
