THE Princess of boredom
By Florentine Bonneville
Once upon a time, a princess was
living in a kingdom that was so boring that for her eighteenth birthday she
asked her parents, the king and queen of Boredom, to send her away. Tina was a
unique child and she did not have any friends to play with. The only
relationship she had ever had with the exterior world was with the son of a
merchant. His name was Niklaus, he was a little bit older than Tina and he was
handsome.
Niklaus had traveled in many kingdoms with his father, but his favorite one was Boredom. He loved to spend hours and hours telling stories from all over places to the young princess. Tina’s favorite story was from a far far away kingdom: Belleville.
In Belleville, everybody was nice to each other and the fairies were in charge. Princess Tina had always wanted to meet fairies since Niklaus’ stories about them. While Tina was sixteen, Niklaus had had to go for a voyage that would last a couple years, he had promised her to come back as soon as possible to tell her all his adventures.
The day of her eighteenth birthday, the king and queen gave their daughter the most beautiful horse so she could go visit this wonderful kingdom that Belleville was. Tina was so exited that she was ready to go two hours later. Her parents had organized a party but nobody had answered the invitation. Boredom parties had a certain reputation... and nobody wanted to spend hours and hours looking at the flies flying.
Tina and her horse were on their way to Belleville and Tina was thinking about all the wonderful people and things she would be able to meet and do there. She was really exited to meet the fairies who would teach her so much about natural plants and, also unicorns and their authentic grace which were only mystical creatures for her. Belleville was the perfect kingdom, where the word “trouble” did not exist.
Tina met Niklaus on her way to Belleville, the young man was coming back from his long journey and he was really tired. Once they get to the wonderful kingdom, everything was beautiful and fairies were so nice to each other: it was too perfect. Tina met the mother fairy who offered her to stay at the Factofairy. The Factofairy was a wonderful place where all the fairies lived together. Niklaus told Tina that he would go rest a little bit before dinner. The princess was really happy to have a friend with her.
Fairies offered several times tea to the princess but this last one was not thirsty and refused politely every time. She had noted that the mother fairy was a little bit annoyed by her refusal. While the mother fairy gave a tour to the young lady, this last one noticed between the hole of a door that some fairies were maltreated a dragon that they had captured. The mother fairy quickly closed the door and continued the visit as if nothing happened.
At dinnertime, Tina and Niklaus met to share their supper. The traveler had rested and was feeling better. Tina decided to ask him why the fairies were mean to the dragon. Niklaus had no idea about what was she talking about, so she explained him what she had seen. Niklaus was not shocked and did not want to know any more. The princess thought that her friend was not acting as usual. He had been eating and drinking all the fairies’ food whereas Tina had not touched anything so far. Then, she realized that the food might be poisoned.
Tina returned to her room and ate the few food she had left from her journey. Then, she looked by her window and saw some unicorns pushing their horns on a big black mass. It was Tina’s first time seeing unicorns and they were as beautiful and majestic as she had imagined them, but she was quite surprised by their behavior. Further down the road she saw another group of unicorns pushing the biggest ogres the princess had ever seen. They were tight by their hands and feet, and looked hurt. Tina was now terrified of this place, and wanted to leave it right away. Suddenly, a little creature appeared next to her and said:
“I wish I could help them, as they helped my friends to escape…”
Princess Tina started and swallowed back her scream as she was facing the cutest little elf. He told her he was sorry if he had scared her, but he was desperately looking for help.
The little elf explained her that the fairies had cursed all the food and drinks of the kingdom and had taken the power over the community. Now, unicorns were used as guards because their horns were sharp and could be used as defensive arms, and the dragons and ogres were used as slaves in the forges and mines to extract gold and diamonds. The ogres and dragons had helped the elves to escape this place one year ago. Linee the elf wanted to help his friends and Tina was ready for some adventure, something that she had dreamed all her life.
Tina met Niklaus for a walk in the morning, she asked him to stop eating and drinking what fairies were giving him, Linee would provide safe food. As soon as Niklaus ate regular food, his memory came back. He was astonished by Tina’s revelations about what Belleville had become. He swore he would help them to restore peace. The three companions were getting ready to restore order.
Linee and his friends the elves, were secretly introducing good food in the kingdom by the underground tunnels. The ogres were giving food to the dragons to help them gain force. The fairies had no idea of what was going on and did not suspect either Tina or Niklaus to be involved in any kind of revolt.
Three weeks after the Princess’ arrival, everything was ready: ogres and dragons had gained their strength back and were ready for liberty. Linee and his little friends had had the wonderful idea to put sleeping powder in the Factofairy drinks and stables. They had met a really kind merchant who had given them the sleeping powder. At night, while the fairies and unicorns were asleep, Tina and Niklaus went to free their new friends. They were all really existed to be out and unchained that they had not noticed the evil mother fairy standing up. She was ready to curse them with her wand when suddenly the dragons breathed fire and burned her to death.
Princess Tina and all her friends celebrated this victory all night long until the most wonderful sunrise appeared. At that moment, the other fairies and unicorns woke up and asked them what had happened because they could not remember the last couple years. It was at that time that the mother fairy had come to Belleville and had taken control. They understood that she had cursed them, and make them obey her. They were both sad and happy to learn about her death. Even if there were no more threats in Belleville, nobody wanted to live there.
Princess Tina suggested to Niklaus, Linee, the elves, the ogres, the dragons, the unicorns and the fairies to come live with her in Boredom. As soon as the group of friends arrived in the kingdom, Boredom was not boring anymore. Princess Tina and her friends lived happily ever after in Friendom, which was the kingdom’s new name.
