Sam Frinzi is a first-year at St. Norbert College pursuing an English degree. She is from Mayville, WI and is a copy editor for the St. Norbert Times, a student run newspaper. Sam’s favorite Disney movie is The Lion King and even though she would have nightmares about the film she still wanted to watch it the next morning. When given this assignment Sam was unsure of what her fairy tale was going to be about. After brainstorming ideas with other girls on her floor she finally decided on an idea, one which you will be reading about in a few short moments. Sam’s fairy tale tells the story of Mira, a small star who lives with her family in the Milky Way. The tale follows Mira’s journey towards safety after fleeing her home and being separated from the rest of her family. Join Mira on her journey to places she has never gone before in search of the peace she so desperately wishes to find.

Mira's Journey
By Samantha Frinzi
Once there was a star named Mira who was always a happy little star. She lived with her family in the country-side of the Milky Way. Mira was pretty content with what was happening with her family and her life. However, one day, Mira’s family was attacked by the two most evil fiends of the whole galaxy. These two often worked together, only because it was easier than trying to compete with each other. One was a White Dwarf, which always had a hot temper to begin with, so he was not one to make mad. The other part of this venomous duo was the Red Giant, who was generally more level-headed and was considerably older than the Dwarf.
Anyways, these two bandits decided that they could not live off of what they had previously plundered from other families of stars, so they went and searched for their next victim. Like previously stated, this family was Mira’s dear family. In the middle of the night, Dwarf and Giant came to Mira’s home and started trying to break in. Like many stars, this was during the time that they could rest from all of their everyday duties, so they took their resting serious Mira awoke to a sound of banging. It was quite curious to her, so she got up and looked outside of her bedroom. What she saw was Dwarf and Giant pounding at her front door! She decided to go and alert her mother, father, and her two siblings. When Mira had awoken her family they decided that it would be best to flee from the scene instead of try and fight. These two villains had a pretty nasty reputation around these parts of the galaxy.
As Mira was just about to get out of the window, Dwarf and Giant burst into the room. For a moment she paused and had no idea what to do. Her mother and father then screamed at Mira to keep moving. However, Mira was always concerned about her family and wanting them to be alright. She paused and had to be physically pushed out of the window. At this point, Dwarf spotted the family trying to escape. He became furious! If he was to rob this family, they would have to be there and see what he was doing to the family. Dwarf rushed into the room and started pulling them back into the main room. However since Mira was already halfway out, her family screamed at her to just keep going and get somewhere safe. Despite all of her previous thoughts about staying with her family, hearing her mother scream at her like that, was the motivation for her to get out and try and stay safe from the bandits.
Mira was frightened about what was happening to her family, however she knew that she could not look back and had to just keep moving. Since they lived in the country, there were not a lot of other families around the house to call a safe spot for her to rest. Mira decided that she needed to get into the city, where there were many other stars. Plus, she thought that she remembered her aunt living in the big city of Furud. As soon as she got far enough away from her childhood home, she decided that she needed to rest before the big journey to the city.
After awakening from her slumber, she thought that last night was all part of this horrible nightmare. That was, at least, before Mira realized where she had been sleeping, on the side of the road in the ditch. She soon came to realize that her family were probably dead or they left for the dead. Mira was quite distraught about this realization, but she knew that she needed to continue walking, so that she could seek shelter at her aunt’s house.
The journey to Furud was really not too far for her, but even though it was not far in distance, she still had too much time to think about everything that happened in the last day. As she was walking she thought about how great yesterday was before her family went to bed. It was a nice day out, with a pretty warm climate. Mira and her siblings were sitting in the backyard and picking some of their favorite flowers for the dinner table that night. That was always something fun that Mira enjoyed doing with her younger siblings. The flowers were always so pretty, with colors of bright blue, deep purple, and happy yellows. Just thinking about these flowers caused a smile to grow on Mira’s face. That was just the motivation Mira needed to keep moving on.
Just as it was getting dark, Mira came across a sign that said she was just entering the city limits of Furud! Mira was so excited by this, that she started to do a little jig in the middle of the road. At this point, there began to be a lot of traffic due to the other stars trying to get home. Mira almost got hit by one of these cars! Luckily her jig kept her out of harm. Since she had finally arrived in the big city of Furud, she could now be on the search for her aunt. Her mother would always talk about her sister, Nashira, but Mira had never met her before. Nashira was such an obscure name that there would only be one in this whole entire galaxy, so Mira went to search for a directory of the city.
Once she found a directory (due to the help of a friendly star), Mira was able to find the place where her aunt was living. Mira went to the address and knocked on the door, and once it opened, she saw a very fine resemblance to her mother and Mira broke down in tears. Nashira was able to calm Mira down enough for her to explain who she was and why she was there at all. Nashira was instantly heart broken that her dear sister was most likely dead and that this terrible tragedy had occurred to her family.
Once the two of them regained composure they were able to be happy to see each other for the first time. They decided to call on the Alkraid, the law enforcement of Furud,to help capture the sneaky bandits. After many interrogations and questions, the Alkraid were able to go back to Mira’s home and collect evidence they could for the case. Luckily Dwarf and Giant were not the smartest of all crooks so they left behind clues where they would be heading next. Unfortunately, Mira’s family was no where to be found.
A few weeks went by and the Alkraid soon received word about the villain’s location. They went to go arrest the pair and when they found them, the Alkraid also found Mira’s family! Although they were shaken up, the family was excited to be reunited with their daughter and Aunt Nashirat. From that moment on, the family lived happily ever after.
